The Art of Adornment Online Store will be undergoing a big change on June 15th - we're switching over to a new catalogue and checkout system! The changes are mostly on the "inside"; for the most part the store will look exactly the same.
One of the new features will be to view all prices site-wide in a different currency. No more clickety-click! Here's screenshot of what the new product listing pages will look like:
Not that different. There is still some tweaking to do with the layout and text, but that's basically it. The old catalogue (built with great patience and skill by my fiancé Michael R. Barrick, designer/webmaster of Gothic BC, who has had to deal with my awkward design ideas over the years and practically jury-rig it each time I needed something new!) was pretty darn sweet but the third-party checkout system he'd been forced to built it around had become woefully inadequate. The only way to rememdy that was to overhaul the whole site and rebuild it from scratch. The lucky devil who got that daunting task was friend Bart Adrian, designer/webmaster of Disdeinen.net. The new system is osCommerce, FYI - if any of you are familiar with this software you'll probably be a bit amazed as to how the site got to look like this (frankly, so am I!). Let's put it this way, osCommerce looks absolutely NOTHING like this "out of the box". He had his work cut out for him, boy!
New things:
* change prices to other currencies automatically
* create your own account/login (saves your email, name, and up to 5 shipping addresses)
* track your order progress and view previous orders
* choose express shipping while in the checkout (no more clumsy surcharges!)
* choose HyperWallet for instant payment as well as PayPal
* sign up to automatically receive updates when out-of-stock items are back in stock (!!!)
* easily email a link to a friend for an item you think they'll be interested in
* sign up for our email newsletter (no more Yahoo groups!)
So on June 15 the site will be unavailable for a few hours while the switch takes place. Also, if you have any unused discount vouchers valid for this year you MUST use them before that date, because the codes will no longer be supported. |

Also new is the elimination of the "Costume Wear" category - it has been separated into Gloves and Hosiery, and items such as hand fans have been moved to Other Finery.
More updates to come, but first a new necklace design:
(Here's where I say "pictures don't do it justice" because they really don't.) An ideal unisex item, great for daring ladies and dandy gents. The 21" long chain is antiqued oxidized silver-plaed brass in a medium-heavy gauge (18ga). It dangles a gorgeous antiqued oxidized silver-plated cross with elaborate detailing, with a small clear crystal Swarovski® rhinestone set in the centre. Connects to the chain by a fancy antiqued pewter bail and pewter-capped clear Czech glass bead. 3 currently available.

Oh boy, lots of new things... burlesque-ariffic black satin costume gloves with black feather trim, more one-of-a-kind hair sticks by artist Kitsune (you wanted tassels? we got 'em!), and the following sparklies:
Emerald green Swarovski® crystal rhinestones, black Czech glass beads and antiqued silver filigrees. Two currently available.
Czech crystal faux hematite faceted stone dangling from a 7/8" wide black velvet choker band. Pictures really don't do it justice - the mirrorlike dark "gunmetal" sparkle of the stone is quite fabulous. Three available.
